New Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red Card Is Here!
December 15, 2016
I wrote last month about changes to the American Airlines AAdvantage program that included its announcement of the new line of co-branded Barclaycard Aviator series credit cards.
A Brief History
Barclaycard was the issuer of US Airways' co-branded credit cards. Once the US Air/AA merger went through, Barclaycard stopped issuing new US Air Dividend Miles Aviator cards. Existing cardholders were allowed to keep their cards but you couldn't apply for a new one.
The New Card
As I wrote previously (click the link above for ALL of the details of AA's program changes) there will be a few different options.
Today you are able to apply online for the Aviator Red offering. Here are the high points:
Signup Bonus: 40,000 miles after first purchase (no spending requirement)
Annual Fee: $95 which is NOT waived (hence the no spending limit)
Earning Rate: 2 miles on American Airlines purchases; 1 mile on all other purchases
Perks: Group One boarding, First checked bag free (primary cardholder and up to 4 other passengers on the same domestic itinerary), No foreign transaction fees
Card Type: World Elite - World Elite Mastercards come with several additional travel perks
What It Means
This is great timing and huge considering Citi's announced limits to its cards. This is awesome for those of us that already have had or still have Citi's AAdvantage Platinum Select Mastercard.
This is a great boost for your mileage account going into the new year.
